Lucky Number 7

SO, Faye had her pups this morning. Well, late last night. Results are as follows:
1. black and white Female (dubbed, Delaney)
2. black white and brown Female
3. black white and brown Female
4. black with white belly and paws Female
5. black and white Male
6. dark black Male (named him Beast!)
and
7. perfectly black and brown just like faye Male
About Midnight:10, she popped out a little sack of black and white fur! Two seconds before that I had yelled at her for not welping her litter yet. I think I was feeling the frustration for the both of us and getting very anxious. She went into her box right after that and just started licking until Delaney came out! Then shortly after puppy #2 and we thought we were done. The vet told us only two pups, maybe three... jive-talking doctor. #3 came a few minutes later followed quickly by #4. Then we really thought we were done. Faye is only a 15 lb. dog after all! I cleaned up her bed, gave her new papers and a dry towel and water but she wouldn't rest. She just kept trying to get out of her box. I was yelling at her to take care of her babies! We had no idea 5 and 6 were on the way. 7 came after the drama had died down from 5 and 6 coming. I kept expecting an 8th, justin kept saying, only 98 more to go! only 97 more to go! only 96 more...! with each coming pup. But she stopped at 7. There is no apparent runt, as I am the perfect dog nurse and took such wonderful care of faye through the 2 months of the pregnancy. I'm hoping all goes as well as the welping! The really nice thing I noticed about this litter is that we've managed to acquire a rather chivalrous bunch. All the boys let the ladies go first. Until further notice! CONGRATS FAYE AND REMY!

temperature

today marks April 12th, which means one week until Faye's due date. Today also marks the beginning of the week I am supposed to take Faye's anal temp 3x daily. Its a little weird, but its got to be done. So her temp is supposed to be 100-101 normally. When she drops to 98-97 then its puppy time. Within 24 hours. Her temp is 99.7 right now. When I check it again I hope it's a little higher because I am totally not prepped for these little buggers to come.

A lot can happen in a year

WOW! I forgot all about this blog so quick update.
We didn't name our pup Kodak. His name is Remington. REMY, for short. He was such a damn pistol when we went down to Missouri and got him!
Remy is now almost a year old. He is the most amazing dog I have ever seen in my whole entire life, and I have already pre-warned Justin that if we break up, I get custody.
Remy got my female, Faye, pregnant. She is having puppies in a week.
Big leap, I realize. But I had no idea that just because dogs COULD have sex, meant they WOULD have sex. Turns out they don't have the moral barriers that people have.
So Faye and Remy are having two puppies. She is due April 19th which means the puppies could come anywhere between the 16th-22nd. AAAH! Secret confession time, I may be more excited about these puppies than I was to get Remy. And Remy and Faye are both such a joy to me that I can't wait to fall in love with their offspring. They pretty much already have a firm grip on my heart, because when Faye is sleeping I lay my hand on her belly and just feel the pups kick. They are such a blessing. I really want to keep a girl, but have a feeling I will fall in love with a boy, so I have been looking at all kinds of puppy names. As I tend to do.

Here's the list:
tomkin- land of the spirits
sura- new life, or green leaf
shesh- brown bear
miki- little
koko- chocolate
Coco
atka- guardian spirit
Lark
Hepburn
Delaney
Vegas
Belle
Beast
Scout
Selleck

Will post pictures when born!!!

What's in a name?

Just as soon as Justin and I secured our pup, my head started spinning with name ideas. Here's the laundry list I came up with:
Bolt
Remy
Flash
Alabaster
Bear
Thunder
Lightning
Franklin
Wooly
Bern
Peat
Triton
Spirit
Volta
Walt
Monsoon (Justin)
Hurricane (Justin)
Seal (Justin)
Olver (Justin)
Puppy (Justin :) obviously)
and finally, we settled on Kodak. Well, we didn't so much settle on Kodak as much as I said that's what I want to name him and Justin didn't complain that it was "too girly." We both love the name, and I particularly love that its got some significance. Justin's great uncle George Eastman invented Kodak. Its just nauseatingly adorable enough not to cause an upset stomach. So here he is, little Kodak:
We can't wait to meet him.
